RI offer a wide range of standard probe needles. The range includes sizes which are suitable as re-placement probe needles for RI probers and for probers of other manufacturers.
The characteristics of the four materials used for making probe needles are:
| Steel: | Low cost general purpose probe needles made from close-grained steel. |
| Tungsten: | Strong probe needles for use where a long-life tip is the first consideration. |
| Gold: | For minimum specimen damage and low contact resistance, but generally not for the smallest areas. Solid construction in fine gold. |
| Gold Alloy: | Harder and stiffer than fine gold, resulting in more robust tip. Smaller radius tips are possible with gold alloy than with fine gold. |
